If you’ve read my blog up till now you will know that I’m trying to replace smoking with writing. It is working for me. But along the way I’m learning all kinds of new stuff. Some things are silly; like how I never really learn to type with two hands. Now my fingers are getting in each others way.
But on a more serious note I have learned that I need to re-learn my grammar. So I have ordered a book that should be here soon. I’ll be taking some time to study over the next few weeks.
Also I have discovered that I am easily distracted. Not a good thing when I’m trying to churn out the written word. I have found something that is helping me in a tremendous way. It’s a piece of software for windows called Dark Room.
Dark Room is a simple text editor that covers your entire screen, hiding everything. With this software I’m finding that I am getting a lot more done. If you are a writer that gets distracted easy like me, you might want to check it out. Did I mention that it’s free?
Also speaking of software, I also rediscovered an old friend, (can you call software I friend) It’ called Manny’s Simple notes. This one not free and I should say it’s not for everyone. It is a task manager that uses post-it style notes to help you organize your time. I said to use it quite a bit at one point.
Its interface, much like its name, is very silly. But the reason I like it is because it gets straight to the point and has a very short leaning curve.
Now if I can just find some software that will help me read my rss subscriptions so I can read it all at one time, instead of though out the day.
I few days ago I wrote an article on protecting your computer and yourself. It’s on the new blog that me and my son are doing together called SavvyTechs. If you have a few moment to spare you might learn something new.
